Citroen Site Live!
Created 02 Apr 2008
Dot Net and Microsoft have now successfully delivered the world-leading Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (MOSS) 2007 implementation for Citroën’s national website - on time and on budget!
When Citroën approached Dot Net in December 2007 asking to launch a new national website in just 3 months we weren’t sure if they were being serious or not.
They were.
And by the way it needed to fully integrate into the central PSA system in Paris to pull out all the prices and technical specifications of the cars in a fully automated fashion, needed to be ultra resilient and needed to run at lightening pace.
No problem we said.
This, as you might imagine, caused some distress to the project delivery team. But after the look of terror faded and we’d taken the worst affected off to a little white padded room to recover, we got down to the serious work of delivering a project which should take nine months in just three.
So what did Citroen end up with? For those in the know MOSS’s web content management (WCM) functionality was rolled in from Microsoft’s previous Content Management Server product. By integrating with SharePoint it could take full advantage of MOSS’s capabilities as a platform for delivering rich ASP.NET applications along with things such as advanced workflow. We have done some major work under the covers customising MOSS to deliver a CMS through which it is easy to import and maintain information about Citroën’s range of cars.
We also ended up doing some heavy lifting with SQL Server integration services to deliver the data from PSA in France and transform it into something we can make use of.
Ravi Nar, Scrum master, Dot Net said “We were incredibly happy to have successfully delivered such a high profile site on time and on budget. It’s really testament to some of the great guys that have been working on it along with demonstrating the advantages of agile project delivery”.
Due to the high profile nature of the site, along with some of the advanced capabilities it demonstrates within the product, it is currently being profiled as a world-wide MOSS case study by Microsoft!
