NHS Westminster
The client: NHS Westminster (previously Westminster Primary Care Trust) is responsible for funding all of the health services for the 244,000 residents – and the million people who live, work and visit Westminster each day and use some of their services. Responsible for over £450m each year, the Trust plans and pays for all hospital services and co-ordinates the planning and funding of 52 GP practices (105 GPs), 57 dental practices, 64 optical (eye) practices and 94 community pharmacies as well as all the district nurses, health visitors, school and other nurses who work in Westminster.
The challenge: Currently in the middle of rebuilding and redesigning all their internal information systems, NHS Westminster wanted to create an intranet portal that would allow different users across the organisation to have access to all the disparate systems that already existed. They also wanted confirmation that the work they’d been doing was in line with best practice.
The solution: Since the project was about providing a central intranet for the Trust, naturally we proposed SharePoint. We helped them to architect a robust solution tailored to their particular needs and to understand how SharePoint fitted in to their existing strategy. While we were there, we also performed due diligence on the work they had been doing internally – providing reassurance to the management that their system was scalable and redundant.
