PensionDCisions case study

The client: PensionDCisions is an innovative company that uses leading business intelligence solutions to calculate a personal performance and behavioural track record for individuals with corporate defined contribution (DC) pensions.

The challenge: If you work in a large company, you’ll probably have a defined contribution pension scheme, organised by the company and boosted by contributions from them. The problem is that it’s difficult for you to see how your pension pot is performing – and it’s difficult to understand the degree of risk or return you are getting on your portfolio.

PensionsDCisions asked Dot Net to create an application whereby customers could log on to an interactive system and effectively profile themselves in terms of their attitude to risk and how this translates into pension investments. They wanted this done in an engaging format that was simple to use and brought the pension issue to life. The user receives a risk score and then – depending on the preferences of the plan sponsor or trustees – sees an asset allocation which reflects their own attitude towards risk and their time to retirement.

The solution: Dot Net delivered a slick, appealing solution that instantly engages the audience (no mean feat given that pensions – and DC pensions in particular – are not the sexiest topic). Using Windows Azure, we created a application that provided a rich experience for the end user, courtesy of Silverlight. Moving through a series of clear, easy to use screens, the users’ profile is subsequently translated into an individual investment outline and they are then directed from the site towards further information. The users results are recorded so that they can also log-on for return visits.
