Warehouse Explorer case study

The client: Since 1984, Microsoft Dynamics NAV has established itself as a choice for mid-sized organizations looking for a complete enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution that is fast to implement, easy to configure, and simple to use. Today, simplicity continues to beat at the heart of Microsoft Dynamics NAV, while its state-of-the-art functionality covers everything you need to run and grow a successful business. More than one million users have used Microsoft Dynamics NAV to simplify and streamline their highly specialized business processes—and today it is available in more than 42 country versions.

The challenge: The stock management interface of NAV was very text-heavy, drab and unappealing. It is also difficult at a high level to see where stock is stored across your warehouses, and how full they are. They wanted a user-friendly interface to bring some colour to the system – challenging Dot Net to produce a fully functioning proof of concept.

The solution: Using Silverlight, we built a new interface that sat on top of the NAV application. This provided a rich, immersive visual experience for users, allowing them to see at a glance the whole warehouse. Providing stock control in pictures – complete with colour coding to show where the stock levels are sitting – meant they didn’t have to go through twenty or thirty different screens of text within the application. Instead, we were able to roll up all that information into a simple dashboard that anyone without any training can access and read easily.
